Abstract

General William H. Gill, Colorado College president from 1947-1959, was a native Virginian and a 1907 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute. Before entering the army, Gill was a civil engineer. His military career included numerous assignments during WWI and II. As major general, Gill commanded the 89th Infantry Division at Camp Carson. While President of Colorado College, he helped the college navigate the post WWII years. General Gill died of heart failure in 1976 at the age of 89 and was buried with full military honors at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
