Biographical / Historical
Alternative Spring Break (ASB) was an organization that offered students, faculty and staff the opportunity to see and affect issues related with poverty via Spring Break trips sent to various sites to perform service projects for the community in need.
ASB was founded by CC chaplain, Bruce Coriell, who brought the program with him from Vanderbilt University. The first ASB steering committe was founded in the fall of 1989.
"The Alternative Spring Break is a program for Colorado College students who want more than a vacation. Its purpose is to give students an opportunity to become directly involved in poverty-related issues in order that they may contribute more effectively to the solutions."
