Abstract
James G. Dougherty, CC President from 1875-1876, was a Congregational minister from New England In 1875, while working in Wyandotte, Kansas, Doughtery was appointed President of the Colorado College and guaranteed a yearly salary of $2,000, half of which was to be paid by the Congregational Church for his services as pastor. As president, Dougherty was responsible for raising funds, most of which he obtained from the American College and Education Society. Not enough money was raised to pay his salary or to operate the college, and Dougherty reluctantly submitted his resignation on March 9, 1876. Several weeks later the college closed.
